Babies are the Mariah Careys of the human world. They are complete divas and require their own set of particular products regardless of their global coordinates. They are Van Halen rockstars with riders a mile long, including milk at a specific temperature and bowls of M&Ms sans the brown ones.
To ensure we’re prepared for anything travel and climate can throw at us, we keep Rae’s toiletries bag packed with her essentials so it’s an easy grab and go into the suitcase.
Here’s what our little globetrotter required at the age of 5 months old:
- California Baby – Travel Caddy Set – to prevent any potential skin irritations we bring her own bath gear and steer clear of harsh hotel soaps. California Baby products are organic, sensitive, and come in travel size (target audience = me). Currently we bring the shampoo+bodywash, diaper rash cream, and everyday lotion with us. Once she is old enough for sunscreen and bug repellant, we’ll throw those in our bag from this set as well.
- Little Remedies Infants and Children Tummys Gas Relief Drops, Natural Berry Flavor – for many reasons kids get gassy (not sure what my husband’s excuse is). We bring this in case the actual travel or the new food I eat while nursing causes uncomfortable gas and troubled sleep for her.
- Little Remedies Noses Saline Spray/Drops – dry airplanes and new climates can cause congestion so we bring saline spray to help. We lived in South Africa, so some of the products I use aren’t sold in the USA. I bring Flobaby saline spray but have used Little Remedies as well. (tip: avoid the saline MIST or other aerosols so you don’t blow up the plane…I know, it’s like they expect you to remember every safety detail! Geez!)
- NoseFrida Snot Sucker Nasal Aspirator – Rae was a super snotty infant (not like “we wear pink on Wednesdays” snotty, more like “I’m a tiny baby with tiny nostrils and big boogies” snotty) so we were constantly using saline, steam showers, and snot suckers while traveling.
- Infants’ Tylenol Pain Reliever – you never know when a fever could strike so we bring Panado and it’s dropper (South African Tylenol).
- Safety 1st Advanced Solutions High Speed Rectal Thermometer – rectal thermometer, or what I call the new parent’s version of a crazy saturday night (too much?).
- Bepanthen Diaper(Nappy) Care Ointment – tushie lube for the thermometer. I take just a small red container of this since so little is used each time, unless you actually want to make that saturday night a real party (ok now that’s too much I’m certain of it).
- The Honest Company Laundry Detergent – for those explosions that need immediate soaking I got a sample size of this which is great, but you could transfer your normal detergent into a travel size container as well.
- Savlon Antiseptic Cream – for cuts and scrapes I include this and bandaids. Not like my infant gets either of these much yet, but I just feel like it’s a mom thing to always have bandaids ready to whip out to fix anything, like the mom version of duct tape.
- American Red Cross Deluxe Nail Clipper W/Magnifier – because what diva is ever without their mani/pedi equipment? Since baby nails grow like razor sharp talons in t-minus a day (and I’m suspicious she’s part Wolverine), we’re constantly grooming her on the go. I throw in a nail file as well for those tiny toenails of hers (they may be sharp but they’re damn right adorable)
- Summer Infant Brush and Comb, Teal/White – and lastly, every diva needs their three pieces of hair to be in place so a comb is always on standby.
- Henri Bendel Travel Trio – a good friend gave me a set of these bags years ago and they’re sturdy, pretty, and the perfect size. Rae gets the largest for her toiletries (diva status again), I use the medium for my tech cords/chargers and keep the small one packed in my plane bag with face wipes, hand sanitizer, etc.
Having all this stuff ready to grab and go keeps packing for any trip less nerve racking and helps us prevent or treat while on the move. If only we could fit her cute zebra towel into that toiletries bag!
Why not?!
Love these ideas and items for a young “diva” traveler!
These are great suggestions! I am going to stock my travel toiletries kit when I get home tonight because I am ALWAYS unprepared for something 😉
Don’t forget Mac’s Soom Tahini in case of a snack attack 🙂
Is using rectal thermometers better? I planning also to add it in my roadeavour toiletry bag for my son. Thanls. Great post!
My pediatricians always told me that rectal thermometers were the most accurate for babies. Glad the post was helpful!
